    Dieses Buch ist ein wahres Füllhorn an Geschichten, wobei sich jede einzelne wie eine selbstständige Welt anfühlt und keine der anderen gleicht. Jeffrey Ford deckt mit diesem Kompendium wirklich jede Facette ab, die (New) Weird und anspruchsvolle Phantastik zu bieten haben. Ich habe sofort Nachschub bestellt. Nur die Illustrationen sind etwas lieblos eingefügt, aber das erwähne ich nur der Vollständigkeit halber.

    Ich fand an Jeffrey Ford als Person immer sympathisch, dass er Genreeinteilungen und -definitionen nicht sonderlich ernst nimmt, aber zu einem seiner Bücher habe ich dann, obwohl sie von einer Art zu sein scheinen, wie ich sie mögen kann, doch nicht gegriffen. Könnte daran gelegen haben, dass ich zu dieser Zeit am neugierigsten auf diese Trilogie war, die mit "The Physiognomy" beginnt – und kaum noch zu bekommen war.

    Kann mir hier jemand sagen, ob die zwei Geschichten, mit denen er in "The Weird" von den Vandermeers vertreten ist, in irgendeiner Weise repräsentativ sind? Zur blinden Anschaffung ist mir der Band ein bisschen zu teuer.

    Hmmm, ich glaube, dass es schwer sein wird, eine seiner Geschichten als repräsentativ zu benennen, nachdem dieses Buch einen gewissen Überblick gibt. Das reicht vom literarischen Horror, über New Weird, amüsanter Phantastik bis hin zu autobiographischen Texten. Die meisten davon sind allerdings sehr stringent erzählt und kaum eine davon verliert sich trotz der kunterbunten (das schließt viel Schwarz mit ein) Darstellungen in reiner Surrealität um des Gefühls oder der Atmosphäre willen. Ich habe allerdings erst die Hälfte gelesen.
